Types of Acura Keys We Replace and Program On-Site
Not every Acura key is the same, and that distinction matters when it comes to replacement. Older Integra and TL models may use a basic transponder key — a traditional cut blade with a chip inside the head that must be paired to the vehicle's immobilizer system. More recent MDX, RDX, and TLX models typically use proximity smart keys or push-button fob systems that communicate wirelessly with the car's computer at all times. Our technicians carry the diagnostic equipment needed to cut and program all of these types: transponder keys, remote head keys, proximity smart keys, and standard fobs. We handle each format differently because the programming process is genuinely different — smart key pairing for a current-generation MDX requires a different procedure than cloning a transponder for a mid-2000s Integra.
We also service key fobs independently when the issue is limited to the remote functions — lock, unlock, trunk release, panic — rather than the ignition key itself. If your fob stopped working and you're not sure whether it needs a battery, a re-sync, or a full replacement, our technician can diagnose it on the spot. New York's dense environment means keys get dropped, sat on, and soaked in rain more often than anywhere else, and fob internals can fail from physical damage even when the outer shell looks fine.
